I still believe that making an effort to get something as a birthday present, be it chocolates or otherwise is a sincere move. The pracitical aspects of it may be one of the reasons of why that particular gift was chosen but the main reason is still that this is still a token from the person that gives you the gift. Trust me, not everyone is blessed with the creativity to really think of exotic gifts and many do not have the luxury of time to really ponder through the various possible options. It may seem like getting something off-shelf at the very last minute but think again, that person still remembers your birthday.
When you are far away from your loved ones, your friends, doing something that you don't really like, and your birthday falls there and then. A box of chocolates from whoever that remembers your birthday is defintely a God sent. Well such a senario doesn't really happen that often, does it? Of course it doesn't.But when not even your parents can remember when 's ur birthday, I believe a chocolate box is worth much more. Give me a feather with well wishes, I treasure it for the rest of my life.
It's the thought that counts. You shouldn't really meausre sincerity by the type of gifts given. I'm not refering to the monetary value here. In fact, any sensible gift should be treasured for it's the thought that comes. In case you're wondering what counts for " non-sensible" presents, well imagine that when you open a box and all you see is roaches and lizards, now you get what I mean?
Of course, you have the choice of liking or disliking that object that is given to you. We all have the choice. But please don't discount the fact that actual process of getting a present ( be it off the shelf or not) plus his sincerest of wishes is something that we should remember, NOT the actual object itself. Getting something that you likejust for your sake is not really something sincere. It's just going through the motions.
The very fact that we are born into this world is the greatest gift of all. Please don't debate on the hardship that one faces and so on, thus rendering my above statement as false. Hardships and so on are part and parcel of life. One whole package. We enjoy good times, we face up to the bad times. On the anniversary of the day you are born, we should give thanks to all that made this possible. Give thanks to God for making this possible, thank our parents for bringing us into this world. Appreciate the well wishes of those that remember you on this day. Anything else like a present, chocolates or otherwise, is a huge bonus.
Cherish and live life to the fullest... Cheers
DBS actually threw away safes that contained previous items of its customers? This is simply amazing!! I don't see the bank staff throw away or misplace their paychecks?
Another "honest mistake" ? Hello?? The future of Singapore banking is at stake!! Heads must roll!! I'm already not very please with the current banking services of DBS in Singapore. I'm not sure what kind of services its HK branches provide but one thing is for sure, they provide free disposal of valuable items. They even throw in a couple of safe boxes to add on to the excitment. Outstanding!!
This isn't going to help Singapore anyway and seriously , having lived on this planet for close to a quarter of a century, I have yet to hear anything as absurb as this.
There's no way that the bank will be giving a compensation that can truly compensate the lost. Sendimental items can never be replaced. And frankly speaking, I don't think DBS (HK) will compensate anything close to the market value of the items. They claim that they will careful and be on the lookout for incredible claims by customers. In otherwords, what ever the customer says, they will be trying to reduce it, afraid that they would be overcharged?
Sometimes I wonder that these bank providers, say in Singapore, if I have an account in DBS and I have only $499.99 in it, it's as good as saying bye bye to $2. This amount will be administered for maintaining such a low account. This amount is defintely going to be deducted... fast and furious, with extraordinary efficiency. At least this is what they say. This is to help the bank remain competitive and maintain it's efficiency. Now with this incident, will DBS be compensating on the admin time their clients have to spend in getting some form of compensation back? It's only fair what. What about the sleepless nights and the possible heart attacks that one might have to endure being the client of the bank?
Your guess is as good as mine.
Enuff said.
Suddenly, OCBC and UOB looks pretty enticing to me.What time do they open tomorrow morning huh?
I won't say I have difficulties falling asleep, I'm not suffering from insomia. However, having some 6-7 hrs of sleep a day ? Mom claims that aint enough. I've been living like that ever since my NSF days. The chant of 7 hrs of uninterrupted sleep is something like a mantra to all instructors in BMTC and to all commanders alike. But we know how many actually practice that??
Anyway, tried to catch a nap today. Fell asleep for some 30 mins? And yeah.. I'm up again. If the experts say that having 5 small meals a day is ideal for keeping slim and healthy ( instead of 3 normal ones), I wonder how would having 2-3 short periods of sleep help? Haha...
